Write to Marry Day

Perhaps you have no heard about Prop 8 in California. Basically, it will take away the right to marry for same sex couples. Today, I am joining in the Write to marry day campaign.

I am sitting here wondering what I have done to support or help with this campaign. To be honest, not too much, not as much as I could or should do. I have spoken with friends about it. Blogged some about it. Done a lot of hoping. Just decided today I will donate money to the campaign.

The campaign will also educate California voters of the need to “go all the way” down the ballot to vote on the proposition.

Unfortunately, if you pay attention to polls, It looks as if Prop 8 may pass and that means not in same sex couples favor. It is no easy task fighting the cross, not only in numbers, but also financially. Californians often see through things. I am hoping they will see through this proposition and see it for what it really is.

The Proposition is oddly worded and friends who are volunteering say that people are confused. Voting YES on 8 will remove the right for same sex couples. Voting NO will keep it legal for same sex couples to marry. So, we want to vote NO on this Proposition.

It's almost funny to think that there are still actual people who wouldn't vote against prop 8. Almost, because it is quite sad as well.

Stupid, backward, religious people...

There is also an opportunity to stand out on the street with fellow supporters starting Thursday and going through election day.

Though I will be out of town Thursday through Sunday, you can bet I will be out on Monday and Tuesday.

When I voted yesterday....They
had Props for the city that I
live in....They are worded in
another language to me....
They need to write it so it will
be understood better by the
people....But yeah, they never
will *sigh* So, none of those
got a vote from me...We don't
have the Prop 8 here.... :(

HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!

laurie, yeah, these type of Propositions are only running in California, something in Arizona, and Florida this election.

Michael, you are welcome. There is a new ad here with Diane Feinstein saying that this proposition is nothing more than discrimination. It may help.

I think they purposely word all of these Props. to confuse people, especially the elderly or the misinformed.

One thing I have to say. I was pleasantly surprised by my dad last weekend, when I asked him about this specifically. A moderate Republican, who has always raised me with a liberal attitude, he said we can spend money on more important things than violating people's civil rights.

Thanks for the info

Kookla, I agree, they do word them to be confusing. I was thinking how most go on about how we dislike "Special Interest Groups" most often, these props are by and for special interest groups. Anyway . . . . I am keeping my fingers crossed that Californians see this for what it is, discrimination. And Vote NO!
