Rainy days and Mondays

Good Morning, It is raining here which means I will likely be home most of the day today. But it is supposed to be 85 and sunny on Thursday. I always look forward to flip-flops and swimsuits.

Yesterday we went to the The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden.

It is a wonderful place to spend a day, take photos and walk alongside Peacocks.

Good Morning, today's photo is of my back or kitchen window. I love how the light filters in. As you can see, I am now collecting antique glass insulators. I love the way they catch the light. They also come in so many shapes and sizes.

Good Morning, I hope everyone is doing well. I have been pretty busy with several things. Entertaining friends and family, looking for work, taking a web design course. I have also been baking up a storm, everything from scones to cakes and all sort of yummy things.

Rainy days

Hello, It is a rainy day today in Los Angeles, so I am home with Bilou (the kitten) and we are making empanadas. We probably will not eat them until later, gonna prepare them and stick them in the freezer.

Not much else going on today. Applied for a few jobs and then I have my Web design class tonight. I am really enjoying the class and have already learned so much.

Happy Valentine's Day

Good Morning and Happy Valentine's Day. I hope this finds you in good spirits. Had a great weekend. Saturday we played tourists here in Los Angeles. We took the Skyline "on-and-off" Tour and had a great time about their double-decker buses. I have lived here most of my life and learned some very interesting things.

One thing, Century City might not exist if not for Elizabeth Taylor. Most of Century City was built on what was the back-lot of 20th Century Fox. When making Cleopatra, the Studio had invested so much into the film they were forced to sell off its property. This became the property for the skyscrapers, hotels and shopping centers that make Century City today.

Sunday, I biked to Manhattan beach, it was such a beautiful day.

Then, I came home and baked Peanut Butter Oatmeal cookies! Yum!

As the days go by

Good Morning, As I mentioned a few days ago, Many changes have happened in my life.

I am currently unemployed, looking for work and filling my days with . . .. well, things to do. Ha! For example, Friday, I baked Blueberry Scones, took them to a few friends, hiked Runyon Canyon, then sat in the sun with our new kitten Bilou. Later in the afternoon, I made beef empanadas.

I also spend part of each day looking for work. But today, it is going to be 80 degrees in Los Angeles, and I am going to just enjoy the day with a few friends.

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well and life is being good to you. Recently, we went to Las Vegas for a long weekend. We needed a get-a-way, wanted to see the Liberace Museum before they shut the doors and had tickets to see Cher in concert at Caesar's Palace.

We really love staying at Caesars Palace, it is one our favorite places to stay in Las Vegas. They always treat us well, this time they gave us a suite.

We also really enjoyed seeing the Liberace Museum. Talk about over the top, this true showman took piano playing to a new level, with his costumes and stage show. Here is an example of just one of his costumes.

He was once asked, "How do you play with all those rings?" he replied "Quite nicely, Thank you."

Cher puts on a great concert. I really enjoyed her show in Vegas. I believe I enjoyed it more than the farewell tour. At 64 years old, I think she still has it.

Noticed this T-shirt in Cher's giftshop at Caesars. Loved it.

If you enjoy Cher and get a chance to see her in Las Vegas, do not miss it. I am pretty sure you will enjoy the show.

Growing up in Southern California, I have always loved the desert with its openness and beauty. I love seeing it and traveling through it.

Hopefully it will not be so long before something is posted here again. I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying the fall.

Washington Coast, the Lake Quinault Lodge, and Port Townsend

Continuing on our journey we drove to the Washington coast.

Next, we drove to the Lake Quinault Lodge. It sits on the edge of Lake Quinault, and has no televisions, no telephones in the hotel rooms, and limited cell phone service. As the sun went down, the hotel staff arranged chairs on the lakeshore and started fires. It is a great place to visit. As you can see, it sits inside a grove of majestic trees. That night, we enjoyed sitting in the adirondack chairs on the lawn while we drank wine.

The next morning, we drove over to Port Townsend, Washington. we saw some sights along the way.

After visiting, we boarded the ferry back to Seattle.

As I have said several times, we had a great adventure. Words and photos do not do what we experienced justice. I hope you are able to go and experience something beautiful soon, if not now.

A visit to the Hoh Rainforest

While I was in Washington, we went on a road trip to visit the Hoh Rainforest, in the Olympic National Forest. We woke up very early in the morning to start our adventure. After driving onto the ferry, we noticed the sun rising. We were on an adventure and what an adventure it was.

The Hoh rainforest was magical. If you ever have the opportunity, visit this wonderland. I hope all is well in your world.

Good Morning, what is new? Hmmm, not too much. Last night after work, i met some friends and we hiked the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook Stairs. We hiked the stairs 3 times, now that is a lot of stairs.

Hello again, Yes, it has been awhile since my last post. Have had a lot and nothing going on over the past several weeks. Had family visiting for a few weeks, was out of town, combined with not feeling inspired to post.

I've been to Newport Beach, San Diego, Malibu . . . . all over Southern California. We have yet to actually have summer arrive, I do not think it has been over 85 all summer, at least not on the west side.

This past weekend I went to see the Dennis Hopper exhibit at the David Geffen Contemporary Museum, which is part of MOCA. What an life and talent Dennis Hopper was, he passed away on May 29th, 2010. The exhibit showed his photography, his other artwork and a few of his paintings. I found it very interesting how he was always on the edge of what was happening "now" in the art world. If you have an opportunity, you might visit and see it for yourself.

Saturday night we went out and had a few drinks and saw some "sights" in West Hollywood.

Sunday, some friends came over to watch True Blood, so I made a Peach Cobbler. It was delicious, if I do say so myself.

While I was in Tennessee, we had a crawfish boil, it was delicious. Some of my family are originally from New Orleans, so they knew exactly what to do.

We traveled to see the Smoky Mountains too.

The Question is, what and where is the heart of Los Angeles?

I often hear friends and others say " I Hate L.A." I can not wait to get out of here." As if the city had no value, history or soul. Mind you, most of those who make this comment are "Transplants" or people who for whatever reason found their way here. Usually escaping someone or something, or relocating for a career opportunity. I admit, it does bother me, being a native Angelino, when people say this. I think, its just as easy to leave as it was to arrive, so what exactly are you waiting on, if you actually hate it?

I read an article the other day, very well written by Hector Tobar. So, where is the Soul of Los Angeles? Here is it described to Hector Tobar by Tomas Benitez.

"Finding the essence of L.A. is not meant to be easy," he told me.

Still, he said he believes he stumbled upon the secret of L.A. one evening in the 1980s, when he drove with his young daughter from the Eastside to the Pacific Ocean, almost 30 miles along old Brooklyn Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.

It was a journey that began with a greasy sandwich in the San Gabriel Valley, taking him past taco stands, transvestites, iconic nightclubs and faux Roman villas.

"On that drive, we saw the world change 10 or 15 different times," he told me.

It seemed to me Benitez was on to something. To really know it, you have to keep traveling between our north and south, our east and west, our glitz and our grit. You have to discover new L.A.s for as long as you live here.

That's because L.A. is really numerous cities in time and space, some of them layered on top of each other.

Near its center and in that amorphous area many people inaccurately call "the Eastside" is the old city, which grew up around the junction of the Los Angeles River and the Arroyo Seco. It's the time-worn L.A. you see in neighborhoods such as Echo Park and Watts. For me, those places are the baroque heart of the city.

Each of those cross-town journeys, Benitez said, "was like going out and hanging out in another corner of the world."

That's the L.A. Benitez wanted to show his 8-year-old daughter Tara on that long drive down Brooklyn and Sunset — the movie stars and the wannabes, the barrio and the mansions all joined together.

That makes sense to me. Los Angeles is a city built of many messy collisions. The confusion, delight, loathing and bliss you feel when you take the time to truly see it — that, to me, is the essence of Los Angeles.

Wild Weekends with wild Burros

Good Morning everyone. I hope you are all doing well and in good spirits this Tuesday. We headed across that beautiful desert this past weekend to Las Vegas. While we were there, we saw and dad many things.

They always do such an amazing job at the Bellagio attrium.

We also visited Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, which was once a ranch owned by Howard Hughes. Now a state park, part of it is now home to some wild Burros.

I really enjoyed photographing the burros. They were very cautious, however, this one was very curious about me and the click of the camera. With each click, he came a little closer.

Busy and inspiring weekends

This past weekend has flown by. Saturday morning, I went for a hike in Runyon Canyon then headed north to the California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster, California. As the car turned the corner, it was like driving into a sea of orange. The poppies were extra plentiful this year with all the rain we have received, so they really put on a show.

Springtime in Kentucky

Hello everyone, this past week, we went to visit family in Kentucky. Had a great time and really enjoyed our stay. The pear and cherry trees were in full bloom and spring was in the air. We enjoyed staying up until the wee hours of the morning to color Easter eggs and then having an Easter egg hunt the following day. Here are a few photos from the trip.

Visiting the Carrizo Plain

Hello, Over this past weekend, we went on an adventure to the Carrizo Plain to see the California wildflowers. Here is a brief description of the park.

The Carrizo Plain, 100 airline miles (160 km) north of Los Angeles, California is an area by-passed by time.

Soda Lake, its centerpiece, is a glistening bed of white salt, set within a vast open grassland, rimmed by mountains.

The plain is home to diverse communities of wildlife and plant species, and is an area culturally important to Native Americans.

It is traversed by the San Andreas fault, which has carved valleys, created and moved mountains, and yet close up, is seen in a subtle alignment of ridges, ravines and normally dry ponds.

The wildflowers were amazing, sprayed across the hillsides, as if they were a canvas and the wildflowers were paint. Beauty is all around us. Sometimes we need to look a little more closely to see it.

Good Morning sunshine! I love road trips, so this weekend we are heading up north to the Carrizo Palin. This road trip is not that far, a little over 2 hours each way. So we will head up there and see what is new to us and what type of an adventure we can get into.

I hope it is this pretty with wildflowers when we arrive. I am told that this area puts on a beautiful show this time of year and we are in hope of catching it.

Oh what a beautiful weekend it was. Saturday, it rained . . . and they say it never rains in Southern California. Sunny was the exact opposite, a stunning day, so in my usual fashion, I hiked Runyon Canyon.

We also had a few over to play the new Wii game system, eat cake, try to dance and laugh.

I also noticed this really cool art piece and chair, appropriately called the "Warhol Chair"

Reunions

My sisters wedding was very nice, simple and elegant. Parts were created by artisans and parts were made at home with love by friends or family. All the things anyone could ask for in a wedding. There were hurried moments, moments of wonder, moments of delight and laughter, moments of tears and joy. This was not simply a wedding, but a family reunion also. It had been 30 years since we all had joined hands. Which is too long, we agree. After talking, laughing and trying to figure out the why's, when's, who's and hows. We found we were all individuals. Some with patners, some not coupled at all. But each of us with lives of our own. We had all turned out ok and had found our own happiness. Each of us surrounded by love and a life created. We happen to be in separated now only by miles. Coincidentally one of us lives on the left coast, one lives in the middle and one on the right coast. Going left to right as we were born.

We are looking forward to not waiting another 30 years or even a year.

I hope all is well in your world. I am happy, it is supposed to be 78 degrees this weekend, and its a 3 day weekend. Dead Presidents day is Monday. Whoo Hoo! Ha.

A Journey . . .

The photos, in the first picture, I am 7 years old standing with my brother and sister. In the second, I am 8 years old. In the third photo, I believe I am 9. Now you can see why I always thought I was adopted. lol

This Thursday, I will be going to a wedding and a reunion. My sister is getting married in Virginia, where she lives. The wedding should be fun, as weddings are in that way. But more important, not meaning to give the wedding any less respect, will be a reunion of a family for the first time in 30 years. Yes, it has been 30 years since my immediate family has been together in one room. I am sure your first question is why. I ask myself that same question but in 30 years, there are many long stories and people scattered or upset. I would have to say the lack of reunions started with the divorce and carried on throughout the years. I am looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it, and wish those who can not, could.

So, I plan on sitting back, fastening my seatbelt and having my eyes and ears wide open. This is going to be interesting, fun and a roller coaster. Keep in mind, I am trying to not have too many expectations, I feel that is where we trip ourselves up.

So, there will not be a new post for a few days. Hope all is well in your world. Take care and smile.

A Single Man

I thoroughly enjoyed this moving picture of art and design. A beautiful walk back into 1962 with a look into the secret world of a man who loves men. An era when it was less ok to be a man who loved men than it is today. This film has loss, joy and passion. All combined with a reminder that in life often when we forget lifes beauty, it reminds us how beautiful it actually is. Stunningly directed by Tom Ford. Now, go see it and don't have too many expectations. Its expectations that mess us up. Go on, get some popcorn with butter and a box of junior mints, then sit back and enjoy the show.

Rainy Mondays

Good Morning and Happy Martin Luther King Day,

Its a wet one here in Los Angeles, is actually supposed to rain all week. We had a wonderful weekend. Saturday I enjoyed a morning hike, then went downtown Los Angeles to the fashion district. We had a great time and ended up eating at Clifton's Cafeteria. If you have never eaten at Clifton's it is quite an experience and the food is pretty good. Cafeteria style, so it is fun to get a little of this and a little of that. The inside is decorated like the redwood forrest, complete with trees.

Saturday night, we went and met the Grilled Cheese Truck that we follow on Twitter. They are part of the food truck trend to hit Los Angeles and serve yummy comfort food. Grilled Cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, tater tots and all those yummy things. We met up with them on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile and enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich, some yummy spicy macaroni and cheese and tater tots. This is just what the evening called for, everything was delicious and probably the best tater tots I have ever eaten. I am not sure what they do to make them so yummy, but they should keep it going. The crowd was fun also young and older hipsters. If you get a chance, do enjoy.

I have noticed a new wave of Basquiat like artwork which I am very excited about. Herea rea few examples.

Sunday morning I went on a hike with some friends in Griffith Park, it was a great hike with laughs and lots to see.

So, today I am off work and not sure what type of an adventure I will find. It is raining pretty hard, so we will see. Perhaps a baking adventure for today . . . . hmmmm (scratching head) . . . what sounds yummy?

Wow! its i already Friday, as if you did not know. Plans this weekend? Yes, we have a few, we are going to a friends place to share some sushi then talk to a friend who can sometimes see the future. So we will see what they have to say. In the past, they have predicted a few things in detail that came to be. Even things that when mentioned, I should my head and said "huh?"

I found out yesterday, that one of my favorite eateries in Los Angeles had closed. Orso was a wonderful place to go and grab a bite to eat. Most loved the very thin pizza it was simply delicious and something you would crave. I loved sitting on the patio underneath those beautiful trees and occasionally rubbing elbows with a star or two. Orso, you will be missed, but will try your replacement . . . well . . . at least once.

Lets get this new decade started already. I was chatting with a friend about when this "Change" was coming, being a new decade and all. We decided we were actually going to have to do something in order for the actual change to happen. lol

A Great Holiday

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I really enjoyed my extra time off and the holiday. I did and enjoyed so much. Went on several hikes, some alone and some with friends. Took naps and went to see films, went shopping and ate.

Christmas Eve, I went to see the Las Posadas at Olvera Street and had a great time. Here are a few photos.

On Christmas day, I drove through a deserted Beverly Hills, stopped and enjoyed the surreal moment in time.

later I went home and relaxed until a friend came over.

We went to see "it's Complicated" and enjoyed the film. Was light and we found it funny. Saturday, I went hiking with a few friends at Temescal Canyon then to lunch. Hope you had a wonderful hoiiday and are ready to greet 2010. I know I am.

Rainy weekends and a 5K run/walk

Good Morning, we had a very wet and rainy weekend. On Sunday, we did a 5k run/walk on the backlot of Universal Studios. Was really fun and we were thankful for blue skies.

Our tour took us through many times and scenes. From the old west, to old Europe and South America. We even went through the worlds of Jaws

Happy Thanksgiving

It's early here on the left coast. Its very cool and crisp poolside with blue skies this morning, but will supposedly reach a warm 80 degrees this afternoon. Just grabbed the paper, fed the cat, started the coffee and got this morning started. We are having a lazy Thanksgiving this year. The Turkey breast is from Honey-Baked, the pies from Marie Callender's we chose Pumpkin and Pecan and the dinner rolls are Kings Hawaiian. I did make homemade stuffing and cranberry sauce and later I will bake some sweet potatoes with a little maple syrup.

Well, the coffee pot is telling me its ready, so I will put on some music, start looking through the paper and start giving Thanks for all we have. Have a wonderful and Thankful Thanks giving.

If you'd like, come on over later, we'll have plenty to share.

Warning, short week ahead! Yeah! I hope everyone had a great weekend. We had a little of everything.

Saturday, I hiked Runyon, which felt great as I had not been in awhile. Saturday night, we really enjoyed the film 2012. Great special effects and I was amazed at how the recreated Los Angeles to destroy.

Sunday, relaxed, worked on my website and went to the Marina and got a big fat piece of Red Velvet cake. lol

Many of you have this week off, lucky you. I have Thursday and Friday off with the weekend. So, I nice 4 day holiday. Still deciding what to go. We are thinking about going to Las Vegas, but not sure yet. We will see. So, what are your plans?

So, here are a few things I have noticed and found since we last chatted. lol

Last night I went to Starbucks and they were constructing Holiday cheer from boxes. Free with purchase of a gift card, is a folded piece of red lint with some green skittles stuck to the side.

Levi is NOT showing his Johnson. (who cares?)

and what I thought was a pretty good list of 10 realizations and ideas for living.

1. There are no rights and wrongs, or goods or bads.

2. Stay moderate versus extreme.

3. Learn how your body functions and know how to support it (whether you choose to do it or not)

4. Love your bed; you spend 1/3of your life in it.

5. Have a weekly "date night" even if you are alone.

6. Realize that you cannot control another person's opinion of you.

7. Take at least one vacation a year with NO AGENDA, which means once you get to where you are going, experience every minute without a plan.

8. If your intial reaction to something is to say "no," say "let me think about it" instead.

9. Take a really good laugh at yourself every now and then.

10. Make out in the back seat of a taxi (preferably with someone you know).

Good Morning Sunshine,

I hope everyone is relaxed from a wonderful weekend. We had a busy and lazy weekend. A great friend, and more like a family member visited us on Friday night. We had a great time, went to dinner then into West Hollywood for a Millions of Milkshakes treat, then go on a walk about to see who and what was going on.

I got a Medium Miley, which was designed or created by Miley Cyrus. Was delicious, but pretty sweet.

Saturday, we enjoyed the fall sunshine. Then, it got lazy, we did not do much of anything from Saturday afternoon through Sunday night. lol Am I hibernating? I never thought of myself as a bear. lol

Wonderful Weekends

Good Morning, This past weekend was wonderful. Saturday morning, I hiked Runyon Canyon and actually saw a few friends. Later in the afternoon, we went to the dentist and had some old silver fillings replaced with pretty white ones. lol I know, I know . . . . over share. Saturday evening, we joined a friend in West Los Angeles as she was showing some work at a gallery.

I noticed this street art and loved it.

Sunday, really enjoyed taking photos of an event at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. I had a great time and really enjoyed helping out, was doing something I enjoy and met a few people too.

After the event, I went to see part of the Berlin Wall that was on Wilshire Boulevard in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Halloween Weekend

WOW! Did this past weekend go quickly! Saturday, I hiked Runyon Canyon, came home made two types of brownies (with and without the cream cheese filling) to take with us to a friends Halloween Party. After the party, we went to the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival.

There were so many wonderful and creative costumes this year and so many people.

Sunday, we went to see Michael Jackson's This Is It. We really enjoyed the film. It is very well done and shows what a true talent he was. After the film, we drove to Olvera street to watch the Day of the Dead celebration.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend too. Difficult to believe it is already November. Soon we will be gathering for Thanksgiving. I have 99% decided I will not be going to visit family back east this year for the holidays. Hmm, what adventure shall we have? Time to put the thinking cap on. lol

Chocolate Sandwiches & Halloween

Happy Halloween.

A blast from the past, this past weekend when I was visiting with a childhood friend, we remembered something my family used to make. The mention of it made smiles on each of us. Chocolate sandwiches, yes, Chocolate sandwiches. Here is the recipe, it is quite simple, two pieces of white bread, some butter and a Hershey bar.

Butter one side of each piece of bread, lay one piece of bread butter side down in a skillet. Break the Hershey bar and arrange it on the piece of bread in the skillet, lay the other piece of bread on top, butter side up.

Turn on the skillet and cook until one side is golden brown, flip until the other side is to your liking. Yes, just like making a grilled cheese sandwich, only you've replaced the cheese with a chocolate bar.

Last night, after Halloween shopping in Westwood. So many cute college guys. anyway . . . I made two, one for me and one for my husband. Yum!

Delicious. OMG! I've gotta have another one.

Fall weekends

I hope this finds everyone in good spirits. Life has been pretty busy with fall and other things. This past weekend we had a good time, got a few domestic things done and picked the perfect pumpkins.

Saturday, I hiked Runyon Canyon, surprised? Not at all. lol Then I got domestic, I made butternut squash soup, homemade croutons and the most delicious Maple cookies. Oh man, were those cookies delicious.

Sunday, I woke up early, enjoyed coffee and the paper the headed to Venice beach with a friend to get the H1N1 Vaccine. The vaccinations were to start at 9:00 am, but we arrived at 8:00 am and there was a large line before us. Ultimately, it took about 2 hours to get through the line, get our vaccinations and be on our way to find the perfect pumpkin.

Hello, it has been too long since my last post. Life has been busy, had my in-laws in town for a visit. When they are in town we have a great time, its almost like a non-stop party. We went to Calico, Las Vegas, San Diego, La Jolla and Newport Beach.

While in San Diego, we visited Balboa Park, Seaport Village, The USS Midway CV-41 (shhh, I actually served on that ship. Yes, I was in the Navy for about 4 years), Old Town, went to a Pitbull concert (Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn), Kayaked La Jolla Cove and so much more.

when I was stationed on the USS Midway, I was in charge on my departmental supply. Pretty much making sure everyone has the proper things they needed to work the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. Everyone needed clothing and boots, batteries for flashlights etc. The ship was stationed in Japan.

Hello again, it has been a little while since my last post. Life has been busy with travel and hosting family. I hope you are doing well and life is treating you well.

On our way to Las Vegas, we stopped at the Calico Ghost Town out in the beautiful desert. We did not go into any of the mines or attractions, it was interesting just the same. I was amazed at the number of people with european accents.

After Calico, we drove across that beautiful desert to the oasis known as Las Vegas, which I will share more about in the next post.

The Summer wind

Good Morning, I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday weekend. Hard to believe we are waving goodbye to Summer.

The fires are still raging, our place is not near the fires, but our thoughts are with those whose homes are.

We had a really relaxing long weekend. Friday night, I met up with a very good friend, someone who I have known since I was 7. We met at the Alibi Room in Culver City and shared some Kogi food. We had been wanting to try the Kogi food craze for quite awhile. So, instead of hanging out at the truck, which sounds fun too, we tried it there. Delicious, that combined with good company and a delicious crowd, well, who could ask for anything more.

Went on a few hikes, laughed and ate at a few BBQ's and walked along the beach.

Fires, Bowls and implants

Hmm, is that what sums up California these days? Anyway . . . . I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Ours was full of this that and a few more things. Saturday, I dropped my Niece off at LAX so she could go home, we have missed her all weekend. Saturday afternoon, had a dental appointment and a tooth implant started, ahh, nothing like the sound of someone drilling into your jawbone. anyway . . . .

Saturday night, we really enjoyed Liza Minnelli live at the Hollywood Bowl. She put on a great show and entertained with some old favorites and a few new tunes.

Sunday, nothing too exciting, enjoyed the pool, relaxation and a few domestic things.

This past week has been a blast. We have seen many sights, sounds and tastes of Southern California. Has really been fun spending time with, getting to know my Niece and seeing the world through a 13 year olds eyes. Always an interesting perspective.

A Day at the Los Angeles Zoo

Hello everyone,

I hope this finds you in good spirits and enjoying your day. Yesterday, My Niece and I went to the Los Angeles zoo, I had not been since I was about 9 years old. Ha, from what I remember, they have made some large upgrades. It was an extra warm day, but we had a great time and rested and chatted along the way. At first the animals seemed to hiding, but they came out later. We looked for the Elephants, The zoo is building a new Pachyderm forest and currently only has one Elephant, who was hiding. So maybe next time. Turns out, my niece has an eye for photography and really enjoyed using the camera.

Good Morning from the left coast. Its been a little while since my last post, if you had not noticed. My adorable and full-of-life Niece is visiting us, so I am taking some time off from work. We have many things to see and do. Not sure what we are doing today, I guess I need to get planning.

Its a cloudy day today in Southern california. Hopefully it will burn off, or perhaps we should head east. Palm Springs?

Hikes, bread and dentists

I hope this finds everyone in good spirits and enjoying late Summer. I've been a hiking fool, this past weekend I hiked Runyon Canyon twice. Once on Saturday morning and once on Sunday. So, it was a busy weekend. I also went to the dentist and had two wisdom teeth pulled! OUCH! But it wasn't too bad, I was lucky I guess.

Sunday, I also baked this zucchini bread with a big zucchini that a co-worker had grown in his garden.

which reminds me of a story. A while ago I worked in a tall sky scraper in Downtown Los Angeles. A lady friend of mine who is an African American was in the elevator holding a big zucchini. I got into the elevator and said in a smirking tone "Whatcha gonna do with that?" she turned 3 shades of red and exited the elevator the next exit, even though it was not her floor. She called me later and we laughed. I always think of that moment, her and giggle a little whenever I bake Zucchini bread.

Have also been hiking almost every night. Then watching the amazing sunsets.

We met them as we were first coming out and they have been by us ever since. We hung out in West Hollywood, visited the Abbey and chatted til all hours of the night. It sure has been hot! Hot, Hot! Saturday, I went with a friend on the Echo Park lake and Angeleno Heights portion of the world wide Photo walk. We had a great time, despite the heat.

French 75's and the warm sun

WOW! What a great weekend. Saturday I went on a hike in Runyon Canyon then, my better half and I went over to Jim of Jim's Notes for a Bastille day party. Jim and Lyle had their place decorated so perfectly, complete with the Eiffel Tower and Marie Antoinette. Right after we arrived Jim introduced us to a "French 75," it was so delicious, I bet you can't drink just one. We also were fortunate enough to meet Christopher of Clever Fool and Paul, who we had a great time with chatting and laughing. Not surprising at all, Jim and Lyle are not only popular, but have many interesting and attractive friends. We were even treated to a show.

My only regret is that I did not take a camera to Jim and Lyle's party. Can you believe it?

Sunday, we enjoyed the morning. I made brownies then went on a beach picnic. It felt so good to lay in the sun and nap. I hope your weekend was a great one also. Sooooooo, what are you waiting on. What did you do?

Those warm winds of Palm Springs

Last week I took a few days off and had an extra long holiday weekend. Wednesday, I stopped by a friends office and took brownies, then went on a hike and got a new swimsuit from Andrew Christian.

Thursday, I enjoyed the morning, baked some toffee-squares, a recipe from my Great-Grandmother and hit the beach. Later that evening, some friends and I went to the Jackson Family Compound in Encino.

We went to the Jackson Family Compound expecting to find our patience, have difficulty parking and wait in a long line. We arrived, parked right away and walked right up. Little to no wait or hassle.

One of my favorite signs reads, "You gave us a new look, You gave us a new sound, you gave us a new spirit."

I must admit, I never really thought of myself as a huge Michael Jackson fan. But I guess I am realizing, I actually am a fan of his music, dance moves, talent and style.

Friday, on our way to Palm Springs, we stopped at the Staples Center to get a glimpse of this sign.

We had a wonderful time in Palm Springs, it was warm, hitting 105 in the middle of the day, which is exactly what the doctor ordered. Yes, yes . . . 105 is hot, however it is a dry heat. lol.We hired a cabaña with a Fan, a Television and a refrigerator.

Stopped at a park on Frank Sinatra Drive that makes me giggle. You enter the park, and push this button. All of the sudden, Frank Sinatra's voice starts speaking loudly about deserts, animals and mountains.

The wind farms in Palm Springs always amaze me.

Sunday, we packed up and headed back home to Los Angeles. I hope your 4th of July was more than great. We had another wonderful adventure. You always know you are welcome to join.

I hope everyone is looking forward to a fun 4th of July holiday. I have been away from work, which is nice. Went on a hike, enjoyed some time with friends and bought a new swimsuit for Palm Springs.

Today I think I will head to the beach for a walk. Tonight, some friends and I may head to the Jackson Family Compound in Encino, cause we can. Have a wonderful long weekend holiday, or for those of you who are off longer, have a great adventure.

Life is a party and the party goes on, even if we do not R.S.V.P. . . . so . . . let's R.S.V.P. You can always blame it on the boogie. Ha!

Ahhh Summer

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of summer. We had a wonderful weekend, started with going to the Hollywood bowl for a picnic and some music. We saw cover bands of Neil Diamond (Super Diamond) and ABBA.

The rest of the weekend, we relaxed an celebrated a friends birthday. In the next few days, I am taking a few days off then, we are going to Palm Springs. I hope you are doing well and having a great summmer. What are your 4th of July plans?
