On our weekend trip we took a detour on the way to Yosemite. We stopped to see The General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park. It is the largest (by volume) tree in the world.
There was beauty all around. Right up close and far away.
As so many times, right away we found a friend.
On our way up the steep incline we had this amazing view.
These are some of the amazing Sequoias. I love how the red wood contrasts with that brilliant white snow.
This is the trunk of The General Sherman tree. It is difficult to capture its majestic size and stature in a photograph. If you ever have the opportunity, in my opinion this is a must see. It can really put things in perspective.
The person standing in front (in the photo below) wearing dark clothing is my better half. Sure gives you an idea of the size of this tree.
On our way down the mountain we found another friend. I believe this is a mule deer. Which is supposedly native to this area.
On our way into Yosemite. This is what we saw, more than a magical winter wonderland. Just breathtaking and the images in all honesty, do not do its brilliance justice.
After we arrived at the Ahwahnee Hotel, it started to really snow.
The Ahwahnee is more than a hotel, it is a piece of history inside the park. The rooms and lobbies with enormous fireplaces add to the beauty.
The next morning we were able to enjoy even more of a winter wonderland that had been created for us.
This is the view of our trip on the way out of the park.
I hope you have enjoyed this sampling of the amazing sights and experiences we had. Wish and hope you could join us next time.

what great pictures!!!!
Extraordinarily beautiful, those. Thanks for posting them!
Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures and thoughts. Yosemite and Sequoia are truly magical, majestic places of wonder--I'm so glad you had the privilege of being there...
Thank you all for the compliments on the photos. We had an amazing time. Both these places are an easy drive from our home.
The picture of the wolf is just
amazing. Ya know, in Alaska the
govenor is paying people to kill
these beautiful creatures. It's
sickening.
Beautiful photographs. And standing in front of the fireplace really put it in perspective how large they were/are. Thanks for sharing. As much as some fellow Chicagoans disagree, I truly love the winter season
What kind of bird is it?
Thank you for the compliments. I like snow as long as it requires nothing of me.
Sue, I am not sure. These Blue/black birds are all over Yosemite though.
